Creating portraits for Ericka and her two daughters was an amazing experience. Whether it a mother daughter session, sisters, or a family portrait, these sessions are fun, and the ultimate girls day out! We started the day with Starbucks and biscuits, and began trying on gowns. When you’re clamping skirts that are four sizes to large, or sewing someone into a dress without a zipper there’s always laughter. It’s part of what makes families special – they can say things to each other that typically no one else ever would, and everyone laughs. It’s our safe place. We’re with the ones we love the most, and they love us for who we are. This is a time when we can be ourselves, and sometimes in our world of social media where everyone competes for the best selfie, it’s a reassuring feeling to be loved for who you are.
We spent about three hours in the studio, hair spray, lip gloss, and laughter – yes, an amazing girls day out, but wait, there’s more. Now Ericka has a beautiful portrait, this special memory, this amazing say immortalized on her wall. I can only imagine that in five, ten or twenty years, she’ll look back and smile and who knows, maybe do it again. (I would say in twenty years she could do this with grands, but I’m not family, and maybe can’t get away with that comment…. smile.)
