Less than a year ago, Alice Polatty wasn’t searching for a new home for Allure Salon in Greenwood, SC. In fact, she was doing quite the opposite.
After years of growing Allure Salon & Spa in Greenwood, SC, business was thriving. She had recently met with her financial advisor to discuss adding more to her retirement and felt grateful for where life had taken her.
Then, almost overnight, everything changed.
The building she was leasing was put up for sale, bringing the possibility of a significant increase in rent—potentially as much as double. With no room to expand and no way to add additional stylists or services, Alice suddenly found herself wondering if the business she had worked so hard to build had reached its end.
“I really thought my dream was over,” she said.
A New Home for Allure Salon in Greenwood, SC
Still searching for direction, Alice returned to her financial advisor. Instead of talking investments, he offered something unexpected.
“I think I know a place.”
The building had been in the same family for generations, and at first the owners weren’t convinced it could become a spa. But the moment Alice walked through the doors, she saw something completely different.
Where others saw offices, Alice envisioned treatment rooms for skincare, massage, and nail services. She could already picture styling stations filling the open center of the building. She didn’t see what the building had been—she saw what it could become.
When her husband asked, “Are you sure?”
She smiled.
“Absolutely sure.”
They closed on the building in May 2025, and just a few months later, Allure Salon & Spa opened its doors in its new home.
A New Direction
Becoming an esthetician wasn’t part of Alice’s original plan.
She attended Piedmont Technical College for medical billing before one facial changed everything.
“I loved how my skin felt,” she recalled. “But even more than that, I loved how I felt.”
That single experience inspired a new direction. Alice and her husband moved in with family while she completed esthetician school, followed by nail school so she could become dual licensed.
After working at Skin Essentials and later Merle Norman, she took a leap of faith and opened Allure Salon & Spa with a team of three.
Today, that team has grown to seven, but her philosophy remains exactly the same.
Faith at the Center
Throughout our conversation, one theme quietly surfaced again and again—faith.
Before hiring a new team member, making an important business decision, or purchasing a building she never expected to own, Alice prayed for wisdom and trusted that the right doors would open.
She also prayed for the right people—not simply talented people, but kind people who would help create the atmosphere she envisioned from the very beginning.
“I’ve always wanted people to feel like family when they walk through our doors,” she said.
That philosophy has shaped far more than her business—it has shaped the experience.
More Than Skincare at Allure Salon
Alice intentionally created the kind of place she would want to visit herself—warm, welcoming, and inviting. A place where people feel comfortable enough to be themselves, slow down for a while, and leave feeling refreshed in more ways than one.
“It’s a mind, body, and soul experience,” she said.
With more than twenty years of experience, Alice believes consistency matters more than chasing every new trend. Her greatest reward isn’t introducing the latest treatment—it’s watching someone leave feeling lighter, more confident, and more at peace than when they arrived.
By the end of our conversation, it was clear that Allure Salon & Spa is about much more than skincare.
It’s about creating a place where people feel welcomed, cared for, and valued.
For Alice, success has never been measured by how many people walk through the door.
It’s measured by how they feel when they leave.
